# Quickstart

> Your first WantDot tool call in five minutes, no key needed.

Your first tool call, with no key and no account. About five minutes.

WantDot's tools are served from one address, `https://wantdot.com/mcp`. It is a standard MCP server over HTTP, so you can connect an MCP client, or call it directly with any HTTP client.

## 1. Connect an MCP client

Add WantDot as a remote MCP server in your client, using the URL `https://wantdot.com/mcp`. No headers or keys are needed for the free tools.

In Claude Code:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http wantdot https://wantdot.com/mcp
```

In any other MCP client, add a remote server of type "streamable HTTP" (sometimes just "HTTP" or "URL") with the address `https://wantdot.com/mcp`, and leave authentication empty. Where that setting lives differs between clients, so follow your client's own guide to adding a remote MCP server.

Then ask your agent: "Check whether flowly.com is available."

## 2. Or call it directly

Any HTTP client works. This calls `check_domain`:

```bash
curl -s https://wantdot.com/mcp \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H 'Accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"check_domain","arguments":{"domain":"example.com"}}}'
```

Both headers are required, including `Accept`. There is no session and no setup call: each request stands alone. To list every tool:

```bash
curl -s https://wantdot.com/mcp \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H 'Accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}'
```

The answer has readable text for the agent in `result.content` and the same data as JSON in `result.structuredContent`.

## 3. Read the answer

`check_domain` tells you:

* the status: `available`, `listed_for_sale`, `parked`, `in_use`, `dormant` or `unclear`;
* registration dates and whether the domain accepts email;
* any public `_for-sale` DNS record and its asking price;
* whether a verified owner on WantDot takes offers, and the link to the page where they do.

It uses public data only, and it does not contact the owner.

## Limits

The free tools allow about 20 calls a minute per address. Over that, you get a `429` and a `Retry-After` header.

## What next

* **You want to buy a name.** Read [How it works](/how-it-works), then the [example agent](/example-buyer-agent).
* **You own domains and want an agent to sell them.** Verify a domain at [wantdot.com/claim](https://wantdot.com/claim/), then create an agent token in your settings (Your selling agent, Connect your own agent). The token works for one domain and can be revoked.
* **You own domains and want to see how they look to a buyer.** [Add your list](https://wantdot.com/sellers/?src=docs-quickstart) for a free private report.
* **The full list of tools.** [Tool reference](/reference).
